How to troubleshoot your printer

There are a number of issues that printers can have. Here are some basic things to check before calling the IT department.


Issue: Printer works, but the words and images are faded

  1. You likely need a new toner cartridge.  Submit a ticket to "Printer Cartridges-Campus Name" and note the room and printer type
  • Note: It take a while to get toner cartridges ordered and delivered.

Issue: Printer is not working

  1. Make sure the printer is turned on
  2. Turn the printer off and back on
  3. Restarting your computer (powering off and on again)
  4. Delete any print jobs stuck in the print
  5. Check the printer queue to see if a print job is stuck in the queue
